When twenty-four year old Jae (Mischa Barton) is released from prison, she returns home to small-town Ridgecrest, California. It is the last place she wants to be, with the judgement of the town, old friends, and old ghosts. The desire to go anywhere but there prompts her to agree to join her brother on a road trip to Death Valley - which results in getting them hopelessly lost in the most stunning, but unforgiving terrain on the planet.
